ADRENAL BALANCE

ADRENAL BALANCE and ADRENAL STRESS.
The adrenal glands are the center of the stress response, and they have been essential for our survival over the last several thousand years. We depended on them. Faced with stressful situations, initially, the adrenal reaction is adequate and Cortisol, Epinephrine (Adrenaline), Nor-Epinephrine and Insulin (“the four sisters of doom”) are abundant, proportional and work well coordinated. Why do you think I call them “the four sisters of doom” ?. It is because when a person develops chronic stress, this system loses its fine regulation and bad things start to occur with unpredictable adverse metabolic consequences. As the system loses control, bad things start to occur: cell injury, insulin increase, high sugar, hormone decline, thyroid suppression, metabolic imbalance, excessive hunger, cravings, fatigue. Individuals can develop obesity, poor immunity, infections, allergies, depression, poor sleep, mood disorders and inflammation. Later on, the person can get: diabetes, low thyroid function, abnormal DHEA, body aches, low hormones (like low testosterone and low estrogen), low libido, poor sleep, low muscle energy, decreased brain chemicals, pains, bowel malfunction, tender muscles, tender joints, lack of vitamins and nutrients and the result is an even worse fatigue. Malfunctioning adrenals will waste your hormones AND your thyroid: one affects the others, and they are all related and affecting one another (as which we teach in our office). IF THIS RELATIONSHIP IS NOT BALANCED THEN NEITHER YOUR THYROID NOR YOUR SEX HORMONES NOR YOUR METABOLISM WILL BE IN BALANCE AND YOUR SYMPTOMS WILL NOT GO AWAY.

The last few chapters of my new book (“Advanced Alternative Medicine…” book) describe important aspect of managing adrenal imbalances. If you suspect these conditions are affecting you, you should discuss this with your doctor first or see an Endocrinologist. However, whatever answer you get, check my book to learn more. If you have the symptoms then you need to be evaluated by a professional .Don’t postpone this. Thyroid, hormones and adrenal tests are required in order to find out where is the center of your imbalance. If your thyroid function is low, and you suspect you might have adrenal disorder, don’t just fix your thyroid function without adrenal function evaluation and management or your condition might get worse. In our Jupiter Institute office we evaluate adrenal and thyroid functions and hormone levels while we seek to identify the metabolic stress triggers.

ANTI-AGING MEDICINE ABC

Aging is a metabolic process that involves complex biological pathways. Although normal, it is an adverse accumulation of biological changes that occur in humans as they age, and involves physical, psychological, hormonal, cellular and organ decline. Anti-Aging Medicine, also known as Life Extension Medicine, is indeed a Metabolic Medicine, and refers to the science, techniques and therapies that attempt to slow down this decline and extend life span. Different authors, physicians, professionals and laboratories address anti-aging from different angles and offer variety of evaluations and therapies approaches which creates some confusion about the issue of ‘what exactly is anti-aging ?’ . Well, what is anti-aging and who are we going to listen ? : Check the articles on anti-aging of the National Institute of Aging of the National Institutes of Health. You will find a good source of information. As we know, before the age of 25, the body can recover from temporary adversities, health challenges and diseases by itself. However, after 40 years of age, the body begins its real journey of aging. For some, this process starts earlier, for some it starts much later. Why such a difference ? Several factors affect our metabolism and dictate unwanted changes: stress, environmental toxins, gut toxins, chemicals in food, water and environment, hormone decline, nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, wrong foods, bad diets and even pollution. And all these factors interact with our genes and with our detoxification system and silently, inside of us, without us knowing, our metabolic life is being decided. Will you care to change those factors ? Anti-Aging medicine focuses into the intimate biology, knowing how all the above factors adversely affect organs and cells. Through studies and research, scientists and doctors inform about what can be done to slow down this adverse process and heal and even reverse those unwanted age-related changes. However, the question is: will you care to work and try to modify those changes ? In our Jupiter Institute we follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. According to those guidelines we encourage people to combine nutrition, supplements, dietary changes, detoxification, a Better Breakfast, working in synergy with the management of hormones, thyroid, adrenals and metabolic improvement. We inform and teach about toxins, pollution, stress management, healing gut dysbiosis, adaptogens, food sensitivities and searching for cleaner environment. True anti-aging programs offer metabolic improvement and teach about THE FOUR MAIN PILLARS OF HEALTHIER METABOLISM: Your food, your hormones, your supplements and your detoxification.

ANXIETY and DEPRESSION

Anxiety and depression are complex psychological disorders that are difficult to resolve and treat. They can result from genetic tendencies combined with environmental factors like stress from work, relationships, school, responsibilities, finances, etc., or from grief, abuse, substance abuse, or major illness. Occasionally, the root is hidden in past events and is not easy to find without intense psychotherapy, but there might be a more tangible cause found in your brain. Anxiety and depression strongly relate to an imbalance or decline of brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters.

The question is, why are the neurotransmitters altered? NT cannot be ingested nor injected; they have to be manufactured by the nervous cells using the nutritional precursors absorbed in the gut. If the gut is not working well, these nutrients will be poorly absorbed by the body and won’t be available for turning into neurotransmitters. Moreover, the abnormal gut flora or yeast might actually be secreting substances that adversely affect the brain.

Many authors describe how your gut flora, aka microbiome, affects and is affected by the brain activity, and they call this relationship the “gut-brain axis”. This axis explains how the microbiome influences the brain and can be the root of anxiety and depression. Numerous studies now describe how gut bacteria can activate or impair neurological pathways in the central nervous system. It’s for all these that some authors call the gut our “second brain”. Some publications even describe that PTSD and severe anxiety occur as a result of the adverse effect of stressful events on the gut. One thing is for sure, and that is that several kinds of psychological disorders are closely linked to irritable bowel syndrome and dysbiosis.

Sounds like to heal the brain we need to start in the gut. For more information on IBS and dysbiosis, browse our website and read our new book. If possible, you can schedule an appointment at the Jupiter Institute and we’ll teach you even more.

The depth and intensity of anxiety and depression varies a lot from person to person, and cases can be resistant to any management. We don’t claim to cure anxiety or depression, and we are not psychologist nor psychiatrists, so be aware that not everyone’s symptoms respond positively to the gut-hormonal-adrenal-neurotransmitter plan. However, we can help you get educated on your condition and start you down a path of relief.

ARTHRITIS

Arthritis is caused by a combination of inflammation and degeneration of the structures of the joint. Pain, heat, stiffness and swelling are characteristic signs and symptoms of this process. My book, “Advanced Alternative Medicine for Arthritis, Chronic Pain and Injuries”, explains it all in a simple way. It also explains the treatment options, anti-inflammatory medications, nutritional factors, alternative modalities, effective therapies, and the importance of metabolic improvement when dealing with those ailments. Through its pages you will discover healing factors you didn’t know they were available to you. The book explains why current typical managements of prescriptions and arthritis medications is not effective and what to do to enhance the healing of the affected areas. It also answers important questions like: which supplements are really effective ?, how gut inflammation and metabolic imbalance carry an anti-healing effect ?

If you are dealing with arthritis, neck or back pain, neuropathy, chronic pain, injuries from sports or accidents, post-surgery state, and even Rheumatoid Arthritis or fractures, you will find some helpful information in this book that will help you heal faster and better.

BRAIN AND MIND

Mental and neurological disorders are now affecting millions of Americans throughout our country. Most of the time the problem is rooted in the decline and imbalance of the BRAIN CHEMICALS known as neurotransmitters (NT). Another epidemic ?. It is a fact and a true concern: this wave of brain chemical disorders constitutes an expanding epidemic which is currently affecting larger and younger populations. And yes, it is has become more frequent, and the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic have made things even worse.

As the NT are affected, some individuals get memory decline, while others get a general intellectual decline, mood changes, decreased alertness, mental fatigue, anxiety, irritability, difficulty in concentrating or a lack of attention. Some individuals get a combination of these symptoms, and some combine this with an addiction to alcohol or drugs. All the following are caused by NT imbalance or decline: Addiction, PTSD, Bulimia, Chronic Fatigue, Adrenal Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia, Cognitive Decline, Poor Memory, Anorexia, Alcoholism, Parkinson’s, Restless legs, Obesity, Depression, Anxiety, Panic disorder, Migraines, Headaches, Phobias, Chronic Pain, OCD, ADD, ADHD, Persistent Pain, Impulsivity, Psychotic Illness, Burnout, Chronic Stress, Hormone Dysfunction, Poor sleep, Decreased effect of anti-depressants . There are over one hundred different brain chemicals (NT), but frequently, individuals affected by above conditions have abnormal levels of serotonin, dopamine and nor-epinephrine caused by nutritional, toxic or metabolic disorders that affect the NT-precursors. These individuals are NOT suffering from a medication deficiency; they are suffering from NT decline, which is often caused by a Relative Nutritional Deficiency of NT-precursors. We explain all this in our office.

Our Brain Chemicals Improvement Program (BCIP)addresses and seek to correct those deficiencies. Toxins, chemicals, stress, nutritional factors, biological substances and genetic tendencies are combining to damage our neurotransmitter system, depleting our brain of these precious chemicals, and causing multiple diseases. Even dietary factors, food sensitivities and bowel disorders can be the culprits. All those factors need to be evaluated and managed by a physician.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO THEN?
Learn. Read our “Neurotransmitters” article. Do your search in the internet, and when you are ready come to our office. Our BCIP Program (Brain Chemicals Improvement Program ) can help and we’ll teach you all about it.

Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are called Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), and they are complex chronic conditions difficult to manage and full of complications. Many cases end up in dramatic surgery. According to conventional Medicine there is no explanation of why they occur.

However, over the last few years we came to understand that their roots have a connection with the food the person eats. As we found out, food allergy or sensitivity is capable of initiating an inflammatory reaction in the gut which triggers an adverse immune reaction. In other words, IBD would be caused by an immune response induced by dietary triggers. Although initial reports blamed wheat, eggs, dairy and soy, further studies showed that the reaction can be caused by multiple food agents. Publications show that food-specific immunoglobulins against certain foods are at the core of what causes these conditions. Hence, evaluation of food triggers and food sensitivities may serve as an important approach in the diagnosis and management of IBD.

As things are, we now accept that dietary factors influence the pathogenesis and nature course of both Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. Moreover, and according to articles published by the National Institutes of Health, food antibodies may potentially indicate disease status in clinical management and be utilized to guide diets for patients. Therefore, food-specific immunoglobulins (as detected in the food sensitivity test) may serve as an important approach in the diagnosis and management of both Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. The good news is that dietary therapies based on exclusion of foods following the sensitivity report and combined with nutritional formulas may induce remission of these conditions. After we test our patients, we provide a variety of those nutritional formulas in our office. Those formulas are called ‘functional foods’.

Our metabolic improvement program may give you the answers and relief you need.

Fatigue

Fatigue is an overall feeling of tiredness and lack of energy, often associated with poor motivation, affected thought process, sore muscles, and mood changes. It is a lingering tiredness, unexplained and persistent, that affects daily activities, productivity, and relationships. It may be associated with mental fatigue, poor sleep, and a constant need to rest. The first step in addressing fatigue is making sure it is not due to a medical condition. Numerous common medical conditions can cause fatigue, and they all need to be ruled out by a competent physician with proper tests and lab work. Don’t postpone this. If and when those medical disorders have been ruled out, you should focus in the factors I describe next. Keep in mind that the roots of fatigue are complex, and what follows is a brief sample of contributing factors.

Nutrients
Certain dietary habits can cause nutritional deficits that can then affect brain chemicals (neurotransmitters or NTs), cause gut inflammation, and adversely affect our hormones.

Neurotransmitters (brain chemicals)
As our brain controls every function in our body, all body and mental functions rely on a healthy neurotransmitter (NT) balance. Those NTs are also called ‘brain chemicals’, and they decline or are in imbalance, any function of our brain and body can be affected. Overall, neurotransmitter decline is a serious condition, and it can cause a wide variety of medical disorders that can cause, or contribute to, fatigue. * A remark: Many of those individuals affected by fatigue have NT decline caused by what is known as nutritional deficit of NT-Precursors. We explain all this and manage it as well. NT-Precursors are particular nutrients used by the brain cells to produce NTs. Precursors-deficit which results in NT decline or imbalance require a neuroscience protocol to provide precise amounts of special purified NT-precursors. In our Brain Chemicals Improvement Program (BCIP) we provide those special nutritional NT-precursors and enough teaching to understand the problem. * You need to keep in mind that neurotransmitter decline is a serious condition, and it can cause addiction, adrenal fatigue, ADD, alcoholism, anxiety, intellectual decline, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, chronic stress, depression, fibromyalgia, headache, insomnia, migraines, mental fatigue, mood disorders, poor memory and severe tiredness.

Toxins
Toxins and chemicals of all kinds are metabolic and neurotransmitter disruptors. Toxins include recreational drugs, alcohol, medications, and stimulants (including nicotine and caffeine), pesticides, work-chemicals, pollutants, gut toxins, food contaminants, cleaning materials, etc.

Stress
Stress is a known cause of NT imbalance and related fatigue. Chronic stress affects the dopamine and serotonin balance and increases the production of cortisol and adrenaline: conditions that directly contribute to fatigue.

Gut effect
Multiple factors (more information found in our office), including food sensitivities and poor diet, may cause gut inflammation and toxins which then leak through the wall of the intestine and spread through organs and brain, affecting the NT balance.

Hormones
Sex hormone decline (which naturally occurs with age) or a low-functioning adrenal or thyroid gland can alone be a source of fatigue, but combination of adrenal fatigue with low hormones will almost definitely cause a state of low energy.

Management
The first step to management of a chronic fatigue condition requires reviewing all possible medical conditions and understanding all the above factors. Those who don’t understand where things went wrong have slimmer chances for recovery. They will continue making the same mistakes, and the problem will progress and get worse. To quote a philosopher, “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Visit the Jupiter Institute of The Healing Arts to learn more; we have many resources and articles written on the topic of fatigue, and can start a treatment plan on the spot. Our metabolic improvement program may give you the answers, and relief, you need. We can help. We are here to teach.

FOOD SENSITIVITIES

Many people go through life suffering multiple medical problems never knowing that the food they eat is the cause of their illnesses. Food sensitivities are not the same as food allergies or food intolerances. A food sensitivity is an immune reaction triggered by particles leaked through the gut into the bloodstream. Those toxic particles are created by certain foods and, once released into the blood, they begin to tease and annoy the immune system. Food-globulin complexes are formed as a result that hurt the metabolism anywhere in the body. These metabolic attacks are unpredictable and may occur in any organ. However, those reactions are so slow and so silent, you may never know you are suffering from them. There is no way to predict who will be affected, in which way, or when. Moreover, there is no way to sense these metabolic toxicities, and because the reaction is so slow people don’t associate their problems with the foods they ate a few days earlier Sensitivity to certain foods can cause Silent Bowel Inflammation (SBI), leading to accumulation of inflammatory and toxic particles in the gut and a very adverse disturbance of the gut flora. This is called dysbiosis, and it is the root of many diseases. These particles leak through the bowel, reach the blood stream, annoy the immune system and internal organs and cause disease. If you have dysbiosis because of food sensitivity, no probiotic or supplement may help you until you get the test and modify your diet accordingly. Healing the gut requires knowing which foods are hurting it in first place. We provide a high-quality food sensitivity test at the Jupiter Institute of the Healing Arts. We use the results to create a treatment plan for each patient, often using a customized Detox Diet Plan and special supplements. WHAT KIND OF FOOD can cause this reaction ?: Can be anything. Apples, almonds, grapes, peanuts, orange, bread, milk, eggs, lentils, yeast products, ketchup, yogurt, chocolate, raisins, tomato products, beef, salami, grouper, soy, cream-cheese, banana, corn. It could be any food, even healthy food. The type of food varies with every person, and there is no way to know until a Food Sensitivity Test is done. Yes, THE FOODS YOU ARE EATING COULD BE POISONING YOUR BODY. SYMPTOMS OF FOOD SENSITIVITY (SYMPTOMS VARY A LOT FROM PATIENT TO PATIENT): Respiratory symptoms like cough, sneezing, wheezing, asthma, snoring, sleep disorders, bronchitis, nasal congestion, sinusitis, hearing loss, canker sores. Also itchy eyes, immune system disruption, frequent infections, neurological problems (like poor coordination, headache, migraine, depression, memory problems, mental fatigue, intellectual difficulties, confusion, insomnia, poor concentration, autism, attention deficit and even learning disability), skin problems (like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, hives, rosacea, rashes, hair loss, cracked nails), metabolic disorders (like weight gain, obesity, water retention, low-thyroid, cravings, food addictions, imbalance of hormonal triangle, binge eating, weight-loss resistance), emotional issues (like mood swings, anxiety, fear, irritability, anger, nervousness, hyperactivity), energy problems (like body fatigue, sluggishness, apathy, lethargy, restlessness, severe tiredness, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), and also stiff muscles, stiff joints, pain in joints, weak muscles, osteoporosis, vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, anemia, calcium deficiency, nutritional diseases, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, dysbiosis. constipation, bloating, Silent Bowel Illness (SBI), heartburn, belching, stomach pain, stomach ulcer, indigestion, esophageal reflux. “What will happen if I ignore the symptoms ?” -Your condition will probably get worse. We combine the test report with our metabolic improvement program to give the relief you need

GUT AND DYSBIOSIS

Over the last several years many authors of the unconventional medical field have published books and articles describing intestinal conditions characterized by irritation, inflammation and overgrowth of bacteria and yeast. This condition is called Dysbiosis and it is a rather complex yet often silent disorder. It can be caused by stress, wrong foods, parasites, food allergies or sensitivities and bad dietary habits. Some authors point out that toxins and chemicals in the foods as well as certain carbohydrates can be additional causes.

Dysbiosis seems to be a chronic bowel illness, mostly silent, toxic, and very disturbing for the intestine. It allows toxins and food particles to leak from the intestine and into the blood stream (condition called ‘gut hyperpermeability’ or Leaky Gut). The authors state that this may lead to further bowel and body illnesses, like: nutritional disorders, hormonal imbalance, brain chemical imbalance, colitis, thyroid problems, food sensitivities, IBS, constipation, diarrheas, metabolic disorders, gas, belching, cramps, fatty liver, depression, psychological disorders, stress reaction, toxicity, fatigue, chronic fatigue, body aches, back pain, PMS, low vitamin B-12, low iron, bloating, indigestion, headaches, migraines, weight gain, tiredness, asthma, allergies, hair loss, high sugar, attention deficit, As the process continues, more and more symptoms are slowly added: acne, skin rashes, food reactions, poor exercise tolerance, anemia, diabetes, baldness, neck pain, hormonal decline, adrenal-cortisol failure, etc. Dysbiosis is a horrible yet extremely interesting process that affects many people. It involves a disruption in the normal balance of microorganisms in the digestive tract, more specifically in the intestine, and in which certain strains of yeast, bacteria or parasites overpopulate the bowel interfering with normal gut function. The process causes irritation, inflammation and subsequent weakness of the protective lining of the intestine which causes disruption in motility, digestion and absorption of vitamins, amino acids and nutrients, and it is a cause of Silent Bowel Illness (SBI).

Poor gut health is at the heart of many diseases.
Dysbiosis and SBI can result from several causes: a) lack of acid in the stomach (inherited or caused by excess of antacids) which leaves the food undigested, then this undigested food may ferment in the intestine causing bacterial overgrowth, or the food particle themselves can work as an irritant to the intestine, b) food sensitivities can irritate the intestine causing bacterial and yeast imbalance, c) food may be overloaded with processed carbs and induce fermentation, d) food may be contaminated with abnormal bacteria or parasites, e) food may be too abundant in gluten or lactose and serve as an irritant to the intestine (like your daily cereal and milk, like macaroni and cheese), etc., f) the use of antibiotics can have an adverse effect on the normal intestinal flora and promote the occurrence of Dysbiosis, g) Stress, h) combination of wrong diet and alcohol abuse, (like an afternoon of pizza, snacks and plenty of beer).

In general, people don’t know that this is happening inside of them. They may be gaining weight, they may feel bloated, they may get high sugar and elevated blood pressure and their cholesterol may go up, they may develop fatigue, depression, sexual decline and other medical problem, and they know it, but they have no idea that the root of all that is that silent dysbiosis and bowel disaster that is happening every day. We explain all this in our office. We also help our patient in evaluating and managing their gut issues. It’s all part of our gut healing program.

If you suspect you may be having this kind of bowel illness or Dysbiosis or Leaky Gut, talk to your Medical Doctor or see a Gastroenterologist (G.I. Doctor). You may need a metabolic nutrition evaluation and a special functional stool test in addition to a comprehensive blood and urine evaluation.

HASHIMOTO’S

Hashimoto’s disease is a condition in which the immune system attacks and inflames the thyroid gland. It is also known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and the basic abnormality is an inflammation of the thyroid gland caused by the attack of thyroid antibodies, which gradually destroy the gland. Those antibodies are part of an immune system that went the wrong way, auto-attacking its own body.

The main diagnostic evaluation is a blood test showing the presence of thyroid antibodies. In early stages, thyroid function may or may not be affected and might actually be normal and even high by the time the condition is found. Hashimoto’s is caused by the inflammation of the thyroid gland reacting against the auto-antibodies attack. In some individuals it may lead to an enlargement of the gland, called goiter, which occurs in some patients but not in others. In other people, goiter is the only early manifestation of this disease and the antibodies test confirms the condition. Some Hashimoto’s affected individuals may have no symptoms, while the next person might have fatigue, hair loss, constipation, weight gain, feeling cold and an exam might show a goiter. Others may present with fatigue, muscle aches, depression, foggy brain, just like someone with a fibromyalgia condition. Others may have anti-thyroid antibodies but their symptoms of tiredness, insomnia, etc., may be secondary to adrenal gland dysfunction or severe neurotransmitters imbalance.

Yes, it might get confusing.
But what should not confuse you is the following concept. The root of Hashimoto’s Disease is not in the thyroid itself but rather in the immune system that became wild, went the wrong way and started to attack the thyroid. This mad immune system is one of the key concepts for managing Hashimoto’s. Those anti-thyroid antibodies are produced by an immune system that is upset as a consequence of another problem that is distressing it.

What could be distressing the immune system?
The answer: The combination of dysbiosis (inflamed gut), leaky gut and a faulty adrenal gland. The insults that have been coming from the bowel have been leaking through the wall of the intestine and wreaking havoc in the immune system and in the whole metabolism.

Yep!, that’s the next jump in understanding Hashimoto’s. And it’s a dirty one. You are jumping into the mess of your own intestines. So now you know how Hashimoto’s is rooted in an immune system irritated by the gut. A gut that has been altered and became abnormal. A gut with dysbiosis.

Read about dysbiosis, explore our website. You can learn even more with our slides and power point.

HORMONES

We have many hormones produced by our many glands, and they all control and command our metabolism. Some of these hormones can be called “major hormones” for their strong, broad and constant effects in our inner system. Their actions carry a tremendous effect in our quality and length of life. Balancing them according to the guidelines of the Anti-Aging Academy provides what we call anti-aging, disease-prevention, better health, and an overall: a more enjoyable life.

TESTOSTERONE
It is normally present in both men and women. It starts to decline after the age of 30. Low Testosterone causes some of the following symptoms: Decreased muscle mass, weaker muscles, deceased athletic performance, sore body, muscle pains, back pain, high Insulin, weight gain, high cholesterol, depression, mental fatigue, negative mood, irritability, inability to concentrate, anxiety, emotionality, forgetfulness, tiredness, decreased mental sharpness, poor sleep, FATIGUE., dizziness, sweating, hair thinning, hair loss, dry skin, decreased libido (sexual desire), decreased erections, decreased genital sensitivity, decreased climax intensity, decreases sexual interest, decreases love (both sexual and non-sexual). These symptoms occur in men and women. Not everybody gets the same symptoms as people are very different from one another. Low testosterone can also cause increased likelihood of coronary disease and heart attacks, worsening heart function and rise in blood pressure. These symptoms occur in men and women. Not everybody gets the same symptoms as people are very different from one another. NATURAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT CAN CORRECT (REVERT) THESE SYMPTOMS.

BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES CAN ELIMINATE AND EVEN REVERSE MANY OF HORMONE RELATED SYMPTOMS

HORMONES and BRAIN.
Low hormonal levels cause multiple cognitive symptoms. Any combination of the following symptoms might be present: A decline in memory, sleep, reasoning, creativity, orientation, emotions, numeric ability, attention, common sense, response time, learning.

ESTROGEN
It is normally present in both women and men. It starts to decline after the age of 30, and declines even more after 45. Estrogen deficiency causes: Hot flashes, night sweats, body temperature fluctuations, pain, decreased libido (sexual desire), vaginal dryness, decreased genital sensitivity, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, mood swings, fatigue, dry skin, headaches, lack of energy, lack of sleep, back pain, weight gain, obesity, increased sensitivity to pain, feeling discouraged, increased risk for heart disease, joint pain. Not every woman gets the same symptoms, as they are all different.

PROGESTRONE
Normally present in women and men. It’s the first to start declining at around the age of 30. It declines even more after age 45. Low Progesterone causes: Insomnia, anxiety, depression, migraines, inability to relax, water retention, PMS, irregular menstrual bleed, swollen breasts, painful breasts, hunger, cravings, weight gain, obesity, ovarian cysts, decreased libido, asthma, allergies, irritability, acne, joints pain, water retention, bloating. Progesterone is a brain healer, and provides brain recovery after brain injuries and strokes. It’s a natural diuretic, and produces calming and anti-anxiety effects. Decreases cravings, PMS and osteoporosis. It improves immunity. NATURAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT CAN CORRECT THESE SYMPTOMS. MY ANTI-AGING MEDICINE PROGRAM uses natural (bio-identical) hormone replacement and follows the guidelines of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine: It uses natural hormones, and NOT the synthetic ones. These natural hormones (called bio-identicals ) are prepared by Compounding Pharmacies using your own lab test as a reference, hence calculating the dosage according to your own unique needs (treatment is adapted to you).

DHEA
Strengthens muscles, improves immunity and fights anxiety, decreases depression, fights obesity, and improves mood and libido, improves body energy and memory, decreases both fatigue and stress -it improves skin, hair, cellulite, brain function and sugar control -has brain-healing effects and brain anti-aging effects Our metabolic improvement program uses natural hormone replacement .

START THINKING about the possible health benefits of combining natural hormone replacement with a well done Mediterranean Diet and a metabolic improvement program .

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS)

The development and severity of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) has been linked to primary bacterial gut disturbances caused by the food that the person consumes. This disturbance involves irritation, inflammation, adverse bacterial-cells interaction and accumulation of toxins that further irritate the gut. This complex process is called dysbiosis and for sure involves an alteration in the normal intestinal flora and proper gut motility (which can cause constipation or different degrees of diarrhea).

Some individuals have more florid symptoms, suffering at the same time from diarrheas, allergies and headaches, unaware that they all have a common root. Efforts to improve this intestinal dysbiosis in IBS have shown little improvement unless dietary changes guided by food sensitivities are provided. Some are sensitive to chicken and fruits, others to seafood and veggies, wheat and rice, dairy, or eggs. IBS is difficult to detect and even more difficult to treat unless the test for food sensitivity is done.

Our gut healing program uses specific dietary adjustments (based around the results of your food sensitivity test) combined with functional products to detoxify and heal the gut.

MEDITERRANEAN DIET

The Mediterranean Diet offers amazing metabolic benefits, especially when you compare it with the adverse effects of many occidental diets. It improves health and decreases the rate of diseases, particularly those certain to affect people in the occidental world, such as arteriosclerosis, coronary heart disease, intellectual decline, arthritis, vascular disease, digestive disorders and inflammatory diseases. The diet has also a positive impact in the relief of osteoarthritis, inflammation and many painful conditions and is beneficial for the healing of injuries, traumas and surgery. Its property in boosting immunity and good health are well known. You can call it ‘omega-3 diet’ as it encourages to stay away from the adverse omega-6 and anti-nutrients of the occidental diets, as I explain in my office brochure (get a copy) and in my book, “Advanced Alternative Medicine for Arthritis, Chronic Pain and Injuries”,

Since here in Florida, and in most of the US, we don’t carry some of the ingredients easily found in Greece and the Mediterranean area, and we do have certain beneficial products that we can use, I adapted and modified this original diet in order to make it even healthier, enhancing its composition of omega-3 and other key nutrients and at the same time making it more practical. Thus, I call this new version THE FLORIDA MEDITERRANEAN DIET, and this is the way I eat and this is the way you should.

A key factor in my Florida Mediterranean Diet is that I also recommend specific nutritional supplements and vitamins to enhance its healing effect, decrease inflammation and arthritis, promote repair and pain relief and overall bring on metabolic improvement. The reason for this is that omega-3 foods are not always readily available and the raw fruits and veggies we may buy don’t always contain all the vitamins and minerals we need. I usually recommend special brands of purified concentrated fish oil since it is more effective and patients have to take less capsules. I use in my program only selected brands of very purified fish oil and excellent brand of multivitamins, both from laboratories recognized by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. They are not available in health food stores, but these are the ones I take and the ones my family and most of my patients take. Sorry, but after learning about how over the counter and health food stores vitamins, fish oil and supplements can be contaminated with chemicals and toxins, I don’t recommend any other brands. METABOLIC IMPROVEMENT

Metabolic improvement is the key.
Metabolic improvement IS NOT just “using hormones” like many people do, or taking large number of vitamins as some others do, but rather a much more comprehensive management that is now at the reach of your hand. Some individuals are overweight, some have hidden thyroid disorders or low hormones, some have fatigue but some don’t. Some people get hair loss, high sugar, poor sleep, food related problems, depression, frequent colitis while others don’t. Some have adrenal or sex-drive problems, or skin reactions like eczema or psoriasis while others don’t. Some women have PMS, mood swings, mental fog, low progesterone or muscle pains and even FM while other don’t. And some men have low testosterone, poor muscle mass, migraines, low B-12, very high cholesterol while other don’t. Why is that ?. It is because people are different, their metabolic-hormonal state is different, and the interactions between genes and environment is different as well, therefore, they need different recommendations and not ‘the same treatment for everybody’.

At our office, we search your metabolism in order to provide you with what you need. And we show you how we do it.

As each individual is different, improving metabolism has different meaning from person to person and require different tests and different paths. Come to our office and tell us all your concerns, and we will explain one-on-one how to start working on your own personal metabolic improvement. As we evaluate your records and do laboratory tests, keep in mind that the metabolic and hormonal puzzle of each individual is different and requires personalized evaluation. PATIENTS WITH FATIGUE, BOWEL DISORDERS (DYSBIOSIS), INDIGESTION, HEARTBURN, DIARRHEAS, LOW LIBIDO, POOR SLEEP, HAIR LOSS, HEADACHES, DEPRESSION, IRRITABILITY, POOR MEMORY, MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS, ANDROPAUSE (MEN’S MEOPAUSE) SYMPTOMS, FATTY LIVER, PERSISTENT RASH, ARTHRITIS, AND PAINS could benefit from metabolic improvement.

MIGRAINES and HEADACHES

There are several types of headaches, and every person on earth has likely experienced one of them. They can be caused by many factors and some very scary conditions. Migraines are one type of headache, and their severity and symptoms are different for each sufferer, but tend to be consistent in intensity and location. They come with throbbing pain, usually in one side of the head, sometimes associated with nausea and sensitivity to light and sounds. It is triggered by numerous factors like hormonal changes, weather change, certain foods, and stress.

A comprehensive evaluation by a doctor is warranted, and consultation with a neurologist is recommended.

If you have had all the proper evaluation performed and no solution was given to you, then consider this: food might be a trigger. More specifically, food sensitivity. This sensitivity varies a lot from person to person even in the same family. For example, I am sensitive to apples and spinach, my wife to tuna and salmon. Many of our patients are sensitive to chicken and fruits, others to beef, dairy, and many veggies. Only the test can tell you.

Food sensitivities represent a reaction in the intestine against certain kind of foods. The sensitivities vary from person to person, so the reactions will vary as well. When a person eats food they are sensitive to, the immune reaction causes irritation and inflammation in the gut and an adverse change of the bacterial flora. This process, dysbiosis, allows toxins to leak out of the gut and into the bloodstream.

I am not saying that all headaches and migraines are caused by this food sensitivity-dysbiosis process, but you should give it a good thought. If you suffer from migraines and you have yet to find relief from this painful, debilitating condition, consider getting the food sensitivity test.

Many articles published by the National Institutes of Health are showing that food sensitivities are linked to various types of headaches and migraines, and that improved dietary approaches provide beneficial effects on the gut flora with reduction of symptoms.

Some blame cheese, chocolate and wine, but in our office, we see a lot more than that. The classic food-elimination diet has not helped my patients nor myself in the quest to treat chronic conditions. Since we began performing this test in our office, and basing treatment on the results, we have been able to provide relief to countless patients.

NEUROTRANSMITTERS

Our brain controls every single function of our body and all those functions are achieved through communications between the billions of brain cells that constitute our brain. Those brain cells pass chemical-electrical information to one another through the passage of brain chemicals known as NEUROTRANSMITTERS (NT). These NT are chemicals that enable transmission between brain cells (neurons) and between brain cells and organs, muscles and glands. These communications are vital and it is through these very essential neurotransmitters that proper brain functions are achieved. Neurotransmitters ( NT) are involved in managing memory, intellect, problems solving, mood, sex drive, hunger, thirst, satiety, anger, thought process, concentration, sleep, communication, speech, reading, understanding, sensations, behavior, and many more functions. And yes, they control all your hormones, muscles and bodily functions.

But when NT decline or are in imbalance, ANY brain or body function can be adversely affected. There are over a hundred different brain chemicals encompassing multiple functions. Of those, serotonin, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine are our main concern because they are the four main NT and because of their implications in multiple medical disorders.

Mental disorders and neurological problems are now affecting millions of Americans throughout our country, and the big cause of the problem is the decline and imbalance of those BRAIN CHEMICALS (NT). The problem is very serious and it is fomented by the lack of information of the general population. The tremendous stress of the COVID-19 epidemic made things a lot worse. It is a fact and a true concern: this wave of brain chemical disorders constitutes a new expanding epidemic which is currently affecting larger and younger populations, and it is becoming more frequent in our country. Toxins, chemicals, stress, nutritional factors, biological substances, wrong food and genetic tendencies are combining to damage our neurotransmitter system, depleting our brain of these precious chemicals, and causing multiple diseases. THIS IS the moment for you to make a halt in your path and understand this.

Over 60 diseases and illnesses may be caused by or associated with neurotransmitter deficiency, including: addiction, adrenal fatigue, ADD, ADHD, alcoholism, Alzheimer’s Dementia, anorexia, anxiety, bipolar, panic, cognitive decline, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, chronic stress, dementia, depression, fatigue unrelieved by rest or sleep, fibromyalgia, headache, hormone dysfunction, insomnia, migraines, mood disorders, OCD, Parkinson’s, phobias, poor memory, PTSD, restless legs, psychological disorders, psychiatric diseases, schizophrenia, and many more. To complicate the panorama, all kind of medications are currently being used to treat those disorders associated with NT imbalance, but none of them actually relieves the NT deficit . Although symptoms may initially improve, neither one of those medications will increase the amount of serotonin and dopamine, which will continue to slowly decline. Nor-epinephrine imbalance and hormone decline will continue to get worse. In fact, there is solid scientific evidence that some of those medications accelerate the depletion of the neurotransmitters over time. Our Brain Chemicals Improvement Program is actually a neurotransmitter management program and it is guided towards improving this imbalance. We will teach you all this in person.

But why do neurotransmitters decline?
There are many factors, like environmental toxins, chemicals, nutrient deficit, contamination, food sensitivities and wrong diets.

Whether ketogenic, high carb, fat-free, carb-free diets, high protein, unbalanced diets with improper food composition can affect the neurotransmitters, EVEN if the person feels well and is unaware of it. Diets that use stimulants, fat burners or metabolic enhancers are even worse. There are other factors as well, like a relative nutritional deficit of the precursors of brain chemicals, or bowel inflammation, addictions, hormone-related, and many other causes.

As you can see, this is a complex subject, but we explain it all in our office. Bring your records with you. JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING, individuals suffering from addiction, adrenal fatigue, ADD, ADHD, alcoholism, Alzheimer’s Dementia, anorexia, anxiety, bipolar, panic, cognitive decline, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, chronic stress, dementia, depression, fatigue unrelieved by rest or sleep, fibromyalgia, headache, hormone dysfunction, insomnia, migraines, mood disorders, OCD, Parkinson’s, phobias, poor memory, PTSD, restless legs, psychological disorders, psychiatric diseases and schizophrenia, may be suffering from a combination of NT-collapse combined with glutathione-detox collapse at the same time. You don’t rescue those individuals with some vitamins and chicken soup nor with a one week vacation or psychotherapy. Nor with pharmaceuticals, alcohol, marihuana or probiotics. You rescue them with a combined therapy of NT-precursors combined with glutathione-detox precursors. The protocol for the management of above conditions uses a combination of very specific nutritional NT-precursors with glutathione-detox precursors taken simultaneously. The periodic urine tests that we manage in our office assure that the right amount is given.

There are other factors as well, like stimulants, medications, stress, sensory overload, infections and dysbiosis and they all need to be reviewed.

Now take a deep breath and think about what will happen to a teenager or an adult who has SEVERAL OF THE FACTORS I MENTION HERE.

Don’t have the illusion that things will get better over time. If you or one of your relatives are affected, this is the field where you’ll find your answers. We can teach you even more at the office.

OSTEOPOROSIS

One of the more common ailments of old age, osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle — so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses such as bending over or coughing can cause a fracture. Osteoporosis-related fractures most commonly occur in the hip, wrist, and spine.

While we often don’t think of it that way, bone is living tissue that is constantly being broken down and replaced. Osteoporosis occurs when the creation of new bone doesn't keep up with the removal of old bone. It can affect anyone of any gender, age, or race, but white women are much more likely to develop the condition, especially after menopause. Medications, vitamin D supplements, healthy diet, and weight-bearing exercise can help prevent bone loss or strengthen already weak bones. All of these are included in our comprehensive osteoporosis program. Our program for osteoporosis follows the best guidelines of the Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Our special calcium and Solar-D supplements, paired with unique information and tailored guidance, will help you live a break-free life well into seventies, eighties, and beyond.

PSORIASIS and ECZEMA

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease which cause scaly, red patches of different sizes. Sometimes these patches itch, sometimes they don’t. While susceptibility to psoriasis can be inherited, it can be influenced by environmental factors, infections, and stress. Over the last few years, many articles have suggested that reaction to certain foods, and not just gluten, play a role in the root of this disorder.

Dietary changes alone do not cause a large effect on psoriasis but may become an important adjunct to current first-line treatments. After all, this condition is immune-mediated, and there is evidence that the abnormal immune reaction starts in the conflict between food, the bowel, and the intestinal flora within. Articles published by the National Library of Medicine confirm that psoriasis may be strongly related to food sensitivity, causing irritation, inflammation, and dysbiosis in the gut and abnormal immune reactions on the skin. Identifying food sensitivities and providing gut-healing products can be very relevant for those with this uncomfortable, sometimes-debilitating condition.

For our Food Sensitivities test we use special kits from laboratories recognized by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Stress Control

Stress triggers an automatic uncontrolled flood of hormones which are secreted without our command and flood our blood in a stampede. These hormones, which are cortisol, adrenaline, nor-epinephrine and insulin, affect every aspect of our metabolism and all the chemical processes that occurs in each of our cells in order to maintain good health. Prolonged and repetitive secretion of these hormones causes uncontrolled metabolic imbalance and throws the body into an abnormal state. Recurring and persistent stressful events perpetuate this state of disorder and ends up affecting practically everything related to our body’s metabolism: the elimination of toxins, glucose metabolism, absorption of nutrients, brain chemicals, fat metabolism, the energy of cells, and the functioning of the organs. This is metabolic stress.

CAUSES OF STRESS
Some of the causes of metabolic stress are obvious, and other sources can be unclear at first. They can be work, family, food, emotional or health related, but there are many causes. This state of imbalance, which is slow, persistent, and rather silent, can cause a multitude of adverse medical conditions. It is a complex group of events that drains the hormones and takes the individual on a downward spiral of progressive health decline. Indeed, metabolic stress could be the root of your chronic health problem, and is at the core center of many medical conditions.

SYMPTOMS AND CONDITIONS OF METABOLIC STRESS
On the surface, metabolic stress presents itself as a set of symptoms that are shared by many conditions: obesity, fatigue, sleep issues, lethargy, low sex drive, low tolerance for stress, low immunity, frequent infectious illnesses and poor ability to recover, cognitive issues (mental fog, poor memory). When your brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) are affected, you can add in anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, and more. Also lightheadedness, PMS, less enjoyment, mental fog, frequent bronchitis or asthma, frequent cough, inability to lose weight, ‘feeling wasted’, hormonal disorders, breast problems, muscle pain, intellectual disorders, cravings (sweets, salt), poor alcohol tolerance, exhaustion, addiction, apathy, allergies, high blood pressure, poor sleep, increased belly-fat, decreased serotonin (causing depression, craving and lack of satiety), stiffness, nervous stomach, indigestion, frequent headaches, easy fatiguability, nervous breakdowns, etc. "MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BY METABOLIC STRESS FOR YEARS, AND DON'T KNOW IT".

Before you can fix it, you need to evaluate it. At the Jupiter Institute of The Healing Arts, our treatment plan is performed according to the individualized results of your tests, and follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. We can help.

SUPPLEMENTING A MEDITERRANEAN DIET

Based on the culinary habits of those living in Greece and Italy and inspired by their long, healthy lifespans, the Mediterranean Diet is designed to improve health, increase longevity, and decrease the rate of disease, particularly those common to the modern western world, such as arteriosclerosis and arthritis. Studies have shown that the diet also has a positive impact on inflammation and the many painful conditions it causes, and is beneficial for the healing of injuries, traumas, and surgery. You can call this diet an omega-3 lifestyle, encouraging you to stay away from the adverse omega-6 lifestyle.

At the Jupiter Institute, we recommend our own modified version of the Mediterranean Diet. One major change is the additional of nutritional supplements and vitamins to enhance the healing effect of a high omega-3 diet, decrease inflammation and arthritis, and promote repair and pain relief. The awful truth is that foods high in omega-3 are not always readily available or easily affordable, and often the raw fruits and veggies we buy at the supermarket don’t contain all the vitamins and minerals we need. For example, fish oil is an important source of omega-3, but eating oily fish every day for lunch is less than ideal.

We recommend high-quality, purified, and concentrated fish oil since it is more effective and patients have to take less capsules (less burping!). In our program, we identify selected brands of fish oil supplements and other vitamins and supplements, manufactured by laboratories recognized by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Many of them are not available in health food stores, but are available through direct order from specialty catalogues, usually in bulk. For your convenience, we offer bottles of vitamins and supplements from our favorite labs in our office; these are the same vitamins and supplements taken by Dr Nuchovich, his family and friends (many of them doctors themselves), and most of his patients.

Over-the-counter vitamins and supplements (even those found at “healthy” stores) have been found to be contaminated with chemicals and toxins; as such, I don’t recommend any other brands without the recognition of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and without extensive personal research.

THE BOOK: “Advanced Alternative Medicine for arthritis, pain and injuries”

The relief system I describe in my book is a program designed for my patients suffering from arthritis, pain, injuries and neuropathies and in which I combined conventional medical therapies with the most successful alternative modalities. My goal is and has always been to achieve maximum improvement and repair in the shorter amount of time, while avoiding pharmaceuticals, injections and surgeries whenever possible. And it works. As I have seen the many benefits of this program I thought it is time for the rest of the country to learn about it. Although I wrote a previous book about those therapies, this one is much more complete and the one I recommend. Click here to check the book.

Over the last ten years, I have accumulated a vast knowledge in this field and experienced with different healing combinations of non-conventional modalities. I attended seminars in academic centers, including Harvard Medical School, I contacted organizations that deal with pain, arthritis and alternative medicine and I started to combine in myself and my patients’ newer techniques with the help of local professionals. I studied nutrition and explored the complex field of inflammation and tissue repair. Little by little I found the right combination of therapies and nutrients that was more helpful and I described it all in my book. The book is now published, and through its pages you may find a helpful combination of very effective therapies for those who deal with pain, arthritis, disc diseases, neuropathies and injuries. Moreover, the combination of management modalities brings on better health, metabolic improvement, better immune system and even provides anti-aging effect.

See your doctor first to make sure your problem is not caused by a medical disease. If you or anyone you know is suffering from neck pain, back pain, arthritis, significant joint pain, joint inflammation, injury recovery (including whiplash, back strain) or neuropathies, the first few steps to take should be seeing a doctor and a specialist, but in addition, read my book, check those guidelines and the key points I mention. Learn how the therapies I mention combined with certain supplements can be of big help. And beware and avoid (as much as you can) strong pain killers, aka narcotics, as they will NOT heal you but throw you into a metabolic mess. Check our pain and arthritis program and our new book

THYROID

Thyroid hormones are the energy commanders of the whole human body, controlling how food is used by the cells and how glucose is converted into energy. When the production of thyroid hormone is low, we call it hypothyroidism, which means that the thyroid is under active. Diseases of the thyroid gland are commonly encountered, but they are often challenging to diagnose . In addition to all the clear cases of hypothyroidism, millions of Americans have unrecognized thyroid disease, mostly in the form of sub-clinical hypothyroidism ( low functioning thyroid). The two main hormones of the thyroid gland are thyroxine (also known as ‘T4’) and triiodothyronine (also known as ‘T3’) and together they have a powerful impact in every metabolic aspect of the human body. Free T3 is more active than the T4, and some writers even claim that T3 is the real active one.

Our slides presentation will help you understand all this in your first visit. T4 and T3 control heart rate, blood pressure, sleep, bone formation, weight gain and weight loss, muscle activity and muscular strength, mental alertness, fat deposition, thinking, intellect, digestion, sweating, stamina, immune system, and they also interact and control the other glands and hormones. There are multiple factors that interfere with T4 and T3: I review them personally with my patients, but they may all need to be checked.

If you suspect you have thyroid disorder, your first step is seeing a physician. Low thyroid function is not always well defined, and on many occasions the diagnosis is not clear. The condition called ‘low-thyroid’, or sub-clinical hypothyroidism, is very common, and it explains symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, mild depression, etc. Treatment may be needed and might be of great benefit. However, sub-clinical hypothyroidism frequently goes undiagnosed and untreated.

LOW FUNCTIONING THYROID CAN CAUSE MULTIPLE HEALTH PROBLEMS: weight gain, difficulty losing weight, low blood sugar, coldness, cold intolerance, fatigue, chronic fatigue, edema, generalized weakness, hair loss, headaches, brittle nails, infertility, anemia, decreased sexual interest, menstrual irregularities, acne, low pulse, heart disease, palpitations, depression, poor memory, irritability, insomnia, mood swings, attention deficit disorder (ADD), decreased concentration, mental fog, easy crying, anxiety, constipation, gas, bloating, decreased absorption of nutrients, carpal tunnel, weak muscles, muscle pains, joint pains, blocking other hormones, imbalance of hormones and be a cause of metabolic stress. May also be one of the causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, but I explain this better in person. TREATING LOW THYROID FUNCTION with thyroid medications may not always be enough to achieve metabolic balance because: A) If the adrenal glands are distressed, they will affect thyroid function. B) If the gut is inflamed with dysbiosis it may affect thyroid management in different ways, (If the gut is very inflamed, and you have significant episodes of diarrhea or constipation, or your gut has accumulated toxins or be affected by food sensitivities, then thyroid control might be impaired). D) Your thyroid might need metabolic support, E) Wrong diet, toxins and lack of nutrients could be adversely affecting your thyroid.

There is a chapter on thyroid control in my new book. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF THYROID FUNCTION: A sequence of tests must be initiated in order to find out which ones are the roots of the metabolic imbalance of that particular individual. We will guide you through these steps.

According to laboratory findings, thyroid replacement may or may not be needed. Some individuals may need nutritional support and significant dietary changes, while others might need medications and adrenal support. Others may need a consultation with an Endocrinologist or a detoxification program. Different people react differently to thyroid medications and nothing is carved in stone about it. Many people do well with the generic form, other don’t. Others need a T4/T3 combination together with specific nutritional supplements.

Toxins and Detoxification

Every minute of the day, thousands of different toxins and chemicals are released into the air, water, and land by factories and industrial facilities around the world. Millions of gallons of chemical waste, untreated sewage, and toxic byproducts are discharged into the environment. The result is a contamination of all our water and food sources. Chemicals and toxins are everywhere, and have been a persistent and common environmental contaminant over the last several decades. They include pesticides, plastic particles, petroleum byproducts, synthetic colorants, herbicides, fertilizers, additives, metal particles, and much more. These toxins can damage the cells of almost every organ in the body and can also lead to a hormonal imbalance that affects the whole metabolism. Hormonal and metabolic disruption brings health complications, including digestive disorders and hormone imbalance. Recent publications show that the chemical accumulation is slow and gradual, and continues until a critical mass is reached and then disease starts, occasionally slowly but many times suddenly. Let’s be clear: TOXINS ARE HEALTH DISRUPTORS.

Conditions and disorders possibly associated with toxins: Acne, allergies, asthma, chronic bronchitis, weight gain/obesity, migraines, chronic fatigue, cancer, chemical sensitivities, ADD, OCD, brain chemicals (NTs) imbalance, sinusitis, auto-immune diseases, mood disorders, arthritis, many neurological disorders, poor memory and mental fatigue, psychological disorders, depression, heartburn/acid reflux, liver disease, kidney stones, eczema, fibromyalgia, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, thyroid disorders, abnormal estrogen levels, and low testosterone. What can you do? The answer is complex, and involves reading about the subject, learning about diet and nutrition, changing your eating habits, submitting a metabolic nutrition test (which evaluates how much of your metabolism is affected by toxins), and being wary of environmental toxins to limit your exposure. You may need to get a complete hormone, thyroid, and adrenal-cortisol evaluation and then correct the metabolic abnormalities. Overall, consider detoxification; specifically, engaging in a well-designed, professionally recommended medical program that will remove toxins out of your body. When choosing a detoxification program, do not rely on “do-it-your-self” methods found all over the internet. They may be ineffective at worst, dangerous at best. Detoxification is not for amateurs! It requires knowledge, guidance, and medical supervision. In our office, we follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Our Vital-DETOX Program has been designed to reduce the burden of accumulated toxins and support liver detoxification function. It is a strategic system designed to safely enhance and promote the primary pathways of metabolic detoxification and help neutralize environmental pollutants and other harmful toxins. Learn more about our Vital-DETOX Program. OUR BOOK on “Advanced Alternative Medicine for Arthritis, Chronic Pain and Injuries’ (click) has a special chapter dedicated to ‘Toxins and Detoxification’.

WEIGHT CONTROL

Why is it that sometimes diet and exercise alone don’t work? Even those who try the combination of diet, exercise, meal replacements (bars and shakes), and appetite suppressants get to their target weight but later on, when the regimen slips and you attempt to resume a normal life, the pounds comes right back. Why is that? And what causes weight-loss resistance ?

The answer is in your metabolism. Many adverse metabolic factors combine to resist weight loss and cause rebound weight gain. Those factors are unique, different from one person to the other, and need to be evaluated if you want to pursue your weight loss efforts. Low hormone levels could be a culprit, or the thyroid-adrenal connection may be abnormal, or the problem may be rooted in dysbiosis (gut inflammation). Perhaps chemicals, toxins or sensitivities to certain foods are to blame? Perhaps all of them at once, as we often see.

There is much more to weight loss than just losing weight. Healthy weight maintenance requires managing the abnormal factors.
